Charter Communications (Spectrum) is making a nearly $1.25 billion investment in Ohio's broadband infrastructure and bringing more internet access to more parts of the state.

This billion dollar commitment will usher in symmetrical gigabit and multi-gigabit internet speeds across the state, extending Charters’s fiber-optic network to nearly 140,000 unserved homes and small businesses across Ohio.

By the numbers

  • Nearly $500 million investment in a network evolution project in Ohio to deliver symmetrical and multi-gigabit internet speeds. The work has already begun in Southwest Ohio and expected to be completed statewide by 2025. This investment is funded 100% by Charter.

  • Nearly $750 million towards the expansion of Charter's fiber-optic network in more than 60 Ohio counties - bringing gigabit broadband to nearly 140,000 unserved homes and small businesses. This investment is offset by nearly $200 million in federal, state and local grants

Why this matters to Ohio

Nearly one million Ohioans do not have access to high-speed internet according to the State of Ohio.

Access to the internet is essential in today's economy. Without high-speed internet access, many Ohioans miss out on opportunities many of us take for granted such as the ability to work and learn from home, build businesses, or utilize tele-health appointments.

The big picture

Charter serves more than 2.8 million customers in nearly 2,000 Ohio communities and employs more than 7,900 people across the state. In 2022, Charter extended the reach of its network to an additional 36,000 homes and small businesses.

What they're saying

“Investing in high-speed broadband infrastructure is a crucial step toward a connected future for Ohio, but let us not forget that true progress comes from private and public commitment and innovation. We value the investments that Spectrum is making to help us achieve the goal of bridging the digital divide.”

- Lt. Governor Jon Husted

“Charter’s investments in Ohio — combined with vital public funding through RDOF, ORBEG and additional local broadband grant programs — are providing the critical infrastructure so many Ohio families and small businesses need to compete in the digital world. Through this multiyear investment in our network, we will ensure that customers across our entire Ohio service area will receive even faster broadband speeds, with the network security and reliability they have come to reply upon.

- Adam Falk, Senior Vice President of State Government Affairs at Charter
