Ohio's TechCred program shows strong focus on AI skills in latest round of awards

Ohio's commitment to building a technology-ready workforce continues to gain momentum, with the September TechCred application period showing remarkable results and a significant emphasis on artificial intelligence training. Lt. Governor Jon Husted, Director of the Governor's Office of Workforce Transformation, has announced that 597 employers will receive funding to support 7,421 tech-focused credentials for Ohio workers.

AI Takes Center Stage

In a clear indication of industry trends, artificial intelligence credentials emerged as the most sought-after qualification in this round, with 1,300 AI-focused credentials awarded. This surge in AI training requests reflects the growing importance of artificial intelligence across various sectors of Ohio's economy.

Notably, the program is also preparing Ohio's educators for the AI revolution. Sixty-two schools across the state received funding to help their teachers develop new AI skills, ensuring that Ohio's educational system keeps pace with technological advancement.

A Win-Win for Employers and Employees

"With TechCred everybody wins - employers get a more skilled workforce and their employees earn skills that give them more job security," said Lt. Governor Husted. He continues to encourage Ohio employers to take advantage of this successful program that has already benefited thousands of companies across the state.

Supporting Ohio's Economic Future

The program's impact extends beyond immediate workforce needs. Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development, emphasizes that the DeWine-Husted administration's commitment to workforce development is about securing Ohio's economic future. "TechCred empowers employers to upskill employees, while also helping Ohioans achieve their own goals. It is another example of how we are investing in our state's future."

Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey points to the program's consistent success: "Through nearly 30 rounds of awards, the TechCred program has proven to be a winning formula for our employers, their workers, and our state. The credentials earned ensure that our workforce has the skills to keep Ohio moving forward."
