OhioX releases 2025 State of AI Report, mapping Ohio’s AI opportunity

OhioX has published its 2025 State of AI Report, offering a comprehensive look at where Ohio’s AI strengths lie and the areas where we can establish a competitive edge. Based on insights from over 600 technology leaders during the course of 2024, the report highlights trends, challenges, and opportunities in AI adoption statewide.

Why it matters

AI is rapidly transforming industries and impacting all aspects of daily life across the globe. Ohio, with a strong industrial base, nationally recognized research institutions, and a growing technology sector, has a unique opportunity to harness AI’s opportunity for economic growth, workforce development, and enterprise transformation.

Key findings

The report’s findings are based on insights from six AI Roundtables with senior tech leaders in Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland; the sold-out Ohio AI Summit in November 2024, which gathered input from executives, academics, and entrepreneurs; and a statewide survey of 106 respondents detailing AI adoption and business use cases.

  • Ohio’s AI Opportunity: A majority of respondents are optimistic about Ohio's potential in AI. 52% of survey participants are bullish, while 45% believe Ohio could succeed if certain challenges are addressed.

  • Top AI Strengths: Survey respondents identified startup incubation (28%), responsible AI adoption (19%), and infrastructure/services (19%) as Ohio’s leading areas of opportunity. Responsible adoption was the top theme at the AI Summit and Roundtables.

  • Workforce is Priority: 68% of organizations are upskilling employees to support AI adoption—making workforce development the leading strategy for overcoming barriers.
